The Fertility Advocacy Coalition for Technology (FACT) applauds the Trump Administration’s proposed rule on fertility excepted benefits and its recognition of the important role IVF technologies play in helping individuals and couples build families.
Advanced fertility treatments have improved and expanded options for patients experiencing infertility. As these technologies continue to evolve, it is critical that patients have access to safe, effective, and clinically appropriate IVF care.
FACT appreciates the Trump Administration’s efforts to provide greater clarity around fertility-related benefits and looks forward to continued collaboration to support innovation and patient access in advanced fertility technologies (or IVF technologies).
Ensuring IVF thrives in America
The demand for assisted reproductive technologies like in vitro fertilization (IVF) has never been higher in the United States.5,6
However, access to the technology that makes this life-changing treatment is being questioned.
What is IVF?
IVF is a process used to help people conceive a child when they have difficulty doing so naturally. During IVF, eggs are collected from the ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a regulated laboratory. The fertilized egg, now called an embryo, is then transferred back into the uterus with the hope that it will implant and develop into a successful pregnancy. The process might sound simple but each step is fraught with challenges and potential heartache.
Most Americans believe IVF must be accessible.7
Despite its widespread popularity, the future of IVF is facing critical challenges from special interest groups that could significantly impact access to the technologies that make it successful.
